Martha C. Haywood, (22 August 1958 - 9 June 2008)
Above: Joanna, Jim O'Donnell & Martha Haywood at our wedding, 2006
My good friend and one-time employer Martha Haywood (above right) suddenly and tragically passed away on this past Monday, June 9th, 2008.
I've set up a site with information about her memorial, which will be on July 12th, in San Francisco.

Martha was a successful businesswoman, President of MSI Learning in San Francisco,
which is where I met her. Martha was a great teacher, spending considerable time helping her students (in person and around the world) learn about project management.
Beyond her business success, Martha had a wonderful sense of humor and generous personality. She designed and provided all the floral displays for our wedding. She volunteered her time to work with at risk youth in San Francisco.
Professional Biography
Prior to joining MSI, Ms. Haywood held director and senior management positions at technology companies such as Harris Corporation and Telebit Corporation. She has over 18 years experience managing technology product development teams, and began her career as an electrical engineer. The combination of technical and management experience led her to specialize in the area of virtual teams and eLearning. She directed MSI’s research in the area of virtual teams, and was key in the development of the “Principles of Effective Distance Communication” which are at the core of MSI’s instructional method. Ms. Haywood is the author of “Managing Virtual Teams.”
