The 8-Bit Construction Set

The 8-Bit Construction set is a great record that came out a few years ago. It's a collection of vintage Atari and C64 sounds, beats created using those machines, and even software--on vinyl! If you remember playing a software cassette in your tape deck and hearing an ungodly whirring and high pitched whine, yes, this is what they've included. You can actually record this sound and load it into your vintage machine as software! And to make things a bit easier on the ears, the software is only in one channel, with kitschy organ music playing in the other.

Here's a bunch of the Atari samples

Library Thang

Above: Webster Free Circulating Library staff, overlooking collection of music and arts, late 19th-early 20th century, from NYPL Digital Gallery

I've been using Library thing recently to catalog my piles of books, as well as cds and dvds. It's got an easy interface to add book info using the Library of Congress or Amazon servers, you can tag your items like flickr or delicious, and you can browse other users' libraries. You can see who else has your books, and which books are the most popular among users. It's great!

LSD animation

Back in the 50s, the government was testing LSD's effects on people. This animation is made of nine drawings that an artist made while being administered LSD.

David Bowie feat. Dana Gillespie "Andy Warhol" mp3 Be a standing cinema

(Dana Gillespie and David Bowie)

Just when I thought I had all the great Ziggy era recordings from David Bowie (and many mediocre ones), along comes this rocking version of "Andy Warhol" from a BBC recording, with British singer Dana Gillespie on vocals. Just great!

This concert by Bowie and friends was aired on 20-06-71.

This comes from a torrent at dime a dozen.org, and you can download it.
