Beavis and Butt-head Do America script by Mike Judge and Joe Stillman

Beavis is shaking, fed up. He delivers the speech of his life.

BEAVIS (CONT.)
Dammit, this always happens! I think I'm
gonna score and then I never score! It's
not fair! We've traveled a hundred miles
'cause we thought we were gonna score, but
now it's not gonna happen!

BUS DRIVER
(yelling from his seat)
Hey buddy, sit down! Now!

BEAVIS
SHUT UP! (continuing) I'm sick and tired
of this! We're never gonna score! It's
just not gonna happen! We're just gonna
get old like these people, but they've
probably scored!

BUS DRIVER
(standing)
Hey! I'm warning you! Sit down!

BEAVIS
It's like this chick's a slut (motioning
to Martha)... and look at this guy!...
He's old but he's probably scored a
million times!

OLD GUY
(nods in agreement)
Ohh yeah.

BEAVIS
But not us! We're never gonna score! WE'RE
NEVER GONNA SCORE!!! AAGGHHHH!!!

The bus driver tackles Beavis.

Black Sabbath (Haxan remix)

Black Sabbath

This is a cool metal song with clips from the spooky old horror movie Haxan (1925). I think my favorite part is the skeletal horse.

Public access gem: nice early lo-tech mashups of strange video clips. The visual equivalent to tasting a battery.

Dan Clowes interview video ("Art School Confidential", "Ghost World", "Eightball", etc)

Above: Meet Dan Clowes.

I went to see "Art School Confidential" last night and really enjoyed it. Dan Clowes is the original creative force behind the movie, which was loosely based on an early story of his. I was kind of bracing for a debilitating dose of Clowesian (?) ennui and pathos, but there's a lot of comedy in the movie. In fact, Clowes painted a self-portrait as a murder victim prop..watch for it. I can't say any more or I'll spoil things for you.

Anyway, here is an interview with Clowes from the super-excellent-outstanding BBC program from last year called "The Secret of Drawing," hosted by Andrew Graham-Dixon. I was at the APE expo in San Francisco last month, and my friend went over to talk to Clowes, who was signing autographs. My friend mentioned to him that I had this video, and Clowes was surprised as neither he nor his friends had seen it. Well, friends, now you can. This interview comes from the second show in the 4 episode series, which covers storytelling. I highly recommend you seek out The Secret of Drawing, which is a fascinating and wide-ranging look at drawing: as it relates to fashion, art, surgery, architecture, comics, movies, etc...

In this clip, Clowes talks about his childhood, about learning how to draw, and he reads from one of his stories.

selectparks - Pirate Baby's Cabana Battle Street Fight 2006

Above: 8-bit ass kicking!

Wow. This is a completely amazing animation--8 bit grayscale , a violent and hyper adventure in which two heroes rescue a princess from the evil Pirate baby. Great character design and emulation of classic videogame fx (think flashing). Flawless!

Typography of the Electric Company - a photoset on Flickr

My flickr set of the Typography of the Electric Company, part 1.

Not only was The Electric Company (1971-1977) a hugely successful show aimed at improving kid's reading skills, with a stellar cast including Bill Cosby, Morgan Freeman, and Rita Moreno, psychedelic early video effects, and funky music, but it was a program in love with letters. Every episode was filled with various type and lettering, and I believe it planted a seed in my mind that would flourish years later as a love of lettering and found typography. Enjoy!

Mary Blair et Yoshitomo Nara

Above: image from "The Art and Flair of Mary Blair" by John Canemaker

Looking through this book about Disney artist Mary Blair, I saw this image, which reminded me a lot of Yoshitomo Nara's angry little girls. After looking at Nara's work online, I saw that his girls differ in various ways, but I still think he knows who Blair was.

LSD animation

Back in the 50s, the government was testing LSD's effects on people. This animation is made of nine drawings that an artist made while being administered LSD.
